In an attempt to try and keep up with other leagues in football, the ACC is reportedly going to a 10-game conference schedule. This is a rather big decision, and per CBS Sports, athletic directors are to meet in Charlotte to discuss options on how it would work.

Truth be told, this isn't surprising, as trying to keep up with the other conferences is a must when it comes to the College Football Playoff. There are a couple of metrics that the ACC could use to determine the schedules, but expect TV to be involved in whatever decision they come up with.

ACC to keep conference tournament format

Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports reported that the ACC will have 15 of its 18 schools qualify for the ACC Tournament in March, as they did last year. Now they'll do it for a second straight year, which is not a surprising decision.

The report from Rothstein came shortly after the Big Ten, which had the same format, announced that all 18 teams would be attending this year's tournament. You have to think that the ACC will follow suit sooner rather than later.

Women's soccer falls at Wake Forest

Things started very well for the Hokies women's soccer team at Wake Forest with a Natalie Mitchell goal early in the first half, but two Demon Deacons' goals a minute apart in the opening half were the difference in a 2-1 Virginia Tech loss.

The loss drops the Hokies to 4-5-2 on the season overall and 0-3-0 in the ACC. They will return to the pitch on Sept. 27, hosting North Carolina State at Thompson Field at 7 p.m.

Volleyball swept in tournament

After falling to East Tennessee State, 3-1, in the semifinal of the Virginia Tech Classic, the Hokies fell to Radford, 3-0, in the consolation game on Friday to fall to 8-3.
