Virginia Tech men's basketball coach Mike Young vowed that his team would be better next season after a long and frustrating 13-19 2024-25 campaign. The veteran head coach lost some players in the transfer portal, but he also got some key contributors from this past season's team to return to Blacksburg for next season.
Young has brought in some players from the transfer portal who are expected to make some big contributions next winter. He also added Chester Frazier, a former assistant, to his staff next season, and West Virginia transfer Amani Hansberry followed Frazier to Virginia Tech. A Class of 2025 recruit who de-committed from West Virginia after head coach Darian DeVries left Morgantown for the University of Indiana has announced his commitment date and time, and the Hokies are very much in the mix.
According to Travis Barnham of 247Sports, Braydon Hawthorne will announce his commitment on Tuesday night at 7 o'clock. His list of schools that are making a pitch for him, and he'll choose from along with Virginia Tech, is Pittsburgh, Duke, West Virginia, and Kentucky. Frazier was part of his recruiting when he was at West Virginia, and hopefully that plays a part in the Hokies being in the mix ahead of his decision.
Baseball gears up for huge ACC Tournament
After the softball team was eliminated by Alabama on Sunday night in the NCAA Tournament, the last team standing this season in Blacksburg is the Hokies baseball team, which is gearing up for the ACC Tournament beginning Tuesday afternoon in Durham.
Virginia Tech will open with Stanford at 1 o'clock on the ACC Network, and this is a huge game for John Szefc's club. On the outside looking in for the NCAA Tournament in most bracketologies, the Hokies do have some impressive metric numbers that could sneak them in should they have a strong showing this week. One game at a time, and see where the chips lie.
