Multiple factors played into Virginia Tech's 30-23 loss to Wake Forest at Lane Stadium. Penalties, turnovers, the inability to score touchdowns, and self-inflicted mistakes. Add it all up, and it was a seven-point loss in a game that feels like they gave away.

Following the game, one thing that interim head coach Philip Montgomery was happy with was the effort of the Hokies. Despite the mistakes and everything else, Montgomery was happy with his team's effort against the Demon Deacons.

"Disappointing and frustrating, but I was proud of our guys,'' Montgomery said. "I thought they played extremely hard. They played with a lot of passion. They played with a lot of effort. They were flying around a lot of different scenarios and situations that occurred during the game. I thought they continued to stay together. The way they are playing and the passion that they are playing with, I'm proud of.''

He went on to say that they needed to eliminate some things, including mistakes, but since he took over, you can't fault the effort in the last three games compared to the first three under Brent Pry.

Dante Lovett taking visit to Temple

After Pry was fired, it triggered a 30-day transfer portal opening for Virginia Tech players, and one player who wasted little time leaving was cornerback Dante Lovett. According to Pete Nakos of On3, Lovett, who has two years of eligibility remaining, will visit Temple this upcoming weekend. Expect Lovett to take more visits before he makes a commitment.

Wrestling picks up two major commitments

Virginia Tech wrestling coach Tony Robie has the Hokies as an ACC powerhouse, and he picked up a pair of commitments in the Class of 2026. Bo Bassett and Mlevin Miller committed over the weekend to the Hokies. They were both highly after wrestlers who are coming to Blacksburg. Just a massive win for Robie and his staff.
