As we enter the heart of the 2024-25 ACC basketball schedules for both the Virginia Tech men and women, we are not too far from spring sports beginning and awards are still being handed out for this past fall season. That's where we'll begin this edition of Virginia Tech Hokies News.
Virginia Tech women's soccer takes home awards
In November, the Virginia Tech women's soccer team went on a run in the ACC Tournament to the Elite Eight. After knocking off Tennessee at home in the first round, the Hokies eliminated UCLA in the second round and then took down Iowa in the Sweet 16, before falling to ACC rival Duke in the Elite Eight.
Tuesday, head coach Chugger Adair was named VaSID Coach of the Year, while Allie George was tabbed VaSID Defender of the Year. Both awards are well deserved.
Softball makes preseason top 25
We are less than a month away from the Hokies softball team beginning the 2025 season and the preseason accolaids keep coming in. Virginia Tech was ranked 18th in the ESPN.com/USASotball preseason Top 25 poll.
Brent Pry names new strength & conditioning coach
It has been over a month since Virginia Tech football coach Brent Pry fired three coaches, defensive coordinator Chris Marve, offensive line coach Ron Crook, and strength and conditioning coordinator Dwight Galt IV. Last month, Pry named West Virginia offensive line coach Matt Moore as his new OL coach, and on Tuesday, he officially named Galt's replacement.
Virginia Tech named Jarrett Ferguson the new Senior Director of Strength and Conditioning. He is familiar with the program as he was a running back for the Hokies from 1998-2001. That just leaves the defensive coordinator position to be filled by Pry and you would think that an announcement will be made sooner or later.
