It's been over a week since Virginia Tech offensive coordinator Tyler Bowen left to take the offensive line position coach at Ohio State. Hokies' coach Brent Pry has yet to name a replacement and time is getting short with spring practices starting soon. However, over the weekend, Tech announced a hiring to the football staff and that is where we'll begin this edition of Virginia Tech Hokies News.
Virginia Tech football hires Senior Director of Player Personnel
Virginia Tech announced an addition to the football staff, but it wasn't a new offensive coordinator, yet. The Hokies hired Trey Neyer as the Assistant Atheltic Director, and Senior Director of Player Personnel, who comes to Blacksburg from West Virginia. He is reunited with Matt Moore, who was hired as the new offensive line coach for Tech, replacing Ron Crook.
That does not solve the need for a new OC as it was reported late last week that Virginia Tech was targeting Buffalo Bills defensive quality coach Christian Taylor to replace Bowen. That spot remains open as of now.
Softball drops two games to LSU
After starting the season 8-0 with eight shutouts and two perfect games from Emma Lemley, the Hokies softball team suffered their first two setbacks of the season over the weekend at No. 7 LSU. The Tigers won Saturday night, 7-2, then won, 7-4, on Sunday to drop Tech to 8-2 on the season.
Virginia Tech did record a 3-0 win over Northwestern on Friday when Lemley threw her second perfect game of the season. Now the Hokies get ready for another trip into SEC country next weekend when they play at Alabama.
Men's basketball gears up for BC
After dropping a 73-70 decision at home on Saturday afternoon to Virginia, the Tech men head North to Boston College on Tuesday night, hoping to get back into the win column. At 11-14 overall and 6-8 in the ACC, the Hokies could use a win to solidify a spot in the ACC Tournament next month. The health of Jaden Schutt is worth keeping an eye on as Mike Young said after Saturday's game that the Duke transfer is battling the flu.
