It has been five weeks since Virginia Tech fired Brent Pry after an ugly loss to Old Dominion at home. They have a committee in place to find the next head coach in Blacksburg, and on Saturday, there was some smoke surrounding Shane Beamer.

Last Sunday, Penn State fired James Franklin after three straight losses, and he immediately went right to the top of each school's list who are looking for a head coach. Franklin was in Athens, Georgia, on Saturday morning for College GameDay and sounded like someone who plans on coaching in 2026.

"I don't know anything else," Franklin said." "I've been doing this for 30 years. I don't have hobbies. I don't golf. I don't fish. This has been such a big part of my identity, such a big part of my family. We love it.

"I thought we were going to win a national championship there," Franklin added about Penn State. "We were close. That goal hasn't changed. We're just going to go win a national championship somewhere else now."

We'll see where Franklin ends up, but it feels like it'll be a long shot, at best, that he ends up at Virginia Tech.
