This weekend, the Virginia Tech football team is having their much-needed bye after beginning the season at 6-2 after a win at Clemson last Saturday night. However, with the Hokies off, there are still plenty of storylines in college football that fans can keep an eye on. One of them is the potential coaching carousel.

As for some coaches on the hot seat, there are some big games this weekend. Last week, North Carolina State fired Dave Doeren after a loss at Stanford, and now, eyes are on other coaches this week. There is one matchup in Tallahassee, Florida, when Clemson's Dabo Swinney goes up against Mike Norvell and Florida State. This is a matchup where each coach can take some of the heat off with a victory.

According to John Talty, Matt Zenitz, and Chris Hummer of CBS Sports, a couple of other ACC coaches are facing the hot seat as we enter the final five weeks of the season. Bill O'Brien of Boston College took some heat off of himself last week with a win at Georgia Tech, and they face a tough road matchup at Duke. Fran Brown and Syracuse picked up an overtime win at North Carolina on Saturday night and will host SMU on Saturday.

Last week, aside from the NC State job, Maryland and Baylor also opened up. There are likely to be more, with schools parting ways with their current coach or coaches from other schools leaving their current jobs for one of the open ones.

Amani Hansberry names to preseason award watch list

The Virginia Tech men's basketball season opens on Tuesday night when they welcome Coppin State to Cassell Coliseum. Head coach Mike Young got some key retention from last season's club, and one of those players was former West Virginia transfer Amani Hansberry, who was named to the Julius Erving Small Forward of the Year Top 20 Preseason Watch List.

Last season with the Hokies, Hansberry averaged 14.3 points a game, 7.4 rebounds, and he recorded eight double-doubles, the fourth most in the ACC. Also retained was Tyler Johnson and Ben Hammond, which gives Young and his staff three good players to build around.
