Virginia Tech is about to begin its first fall football camp under new coach James Franklin. There is a lot of excitement surrounding the new Hokies era under the former Vanderbilt and Penn State coach. Earlier this week, the ACC Preseason Poll and All-ACC Preseason Team were announced, and we gave our thoughts on the preseason poll. How serious can you take it if Stanford was picked last and got a vote to win the conference?

As far as the All-ACC Preseason Team goes, Virginia Tech only had one player named, and that was defensive tackle Kemari Copeland. He is going to be someone that teams are going to have a nightmare to gameplan for in 2026. However, if there was one player who was snubbed, it was kicker John Love.
Franklin is inheriting one of the top, if not the top, kickers in the ACC. Love is back for his final season in Blacksburg and has one of the more explosive legs not only in the conference, but also in college football. He should have been the kicker on the All-ACC Preseason Team, but that nod went to Aidan Birr of Georgia Tech. The two will go head-to-head in October, and would it surprise anyone if the game came down to their legs?
Virginia Tech men's basketball makes top 7 for four-star 2027 recruit
Things have been rather quiet this summer for Virginia Tech men's basketball coach Mike Young and his staff. They have made some headlines with additions to their 2026-27 schedule, but in terms of recruiting, it's been quiet. However, they got some good news when it comes to four-star Class of 2027 guard Jamaal McKnight. According to League Ready, his final seven schools he's down to are Virginia Tech, Butler, Boise State, UNLV, Pepperdine, SMU and California. The Iowa United Prep standout is the 18th-ranked point guard according to 247Sports.

- Recruiting is going to pick up with the end of the dead period almost here. According to Gavin Hart of 247Sports, four-star offensive tackle Tyrie Davis-Winn, who hails from Drexel Hill, PA, has scheduled a visit to Virginia Tech on Nov. 14 when the Hokies host Stanford. He also has visits lined up with Florida State (Aug. 29), Georgia Tech (Sept. 12), Penn State (Oct. 10), and South Carolina (Nov. 21). Winn also said on is X account that he'll be adding more visits in the future to other schools.
- The Big Ten was the last Power 4 conference to hold its Media Days this week. Indiana coach Curt Cignetti took a shot at the SEC ahead of the 2026 season and nearly seven months after winning the College Football Playoff. "We don't run a hype machine up here in the Midwest,'' Cignetti said. "We believe everything is earned, not given. When we fall short, we say we fall short. When we don't win, we don't cry a river. We don't whine & complain. That's why we're the best." Game on!
