One thing that has been true under Brent Pry during his time in Blacksburg, strides have been made in terms of recruiting in the Commonwealth. He has been making solid connections with coaches, something that didn't always happen under Justin Fuente.

Pry has been getting commitments over Virginia and Tony Elliott lately, and all of a sudden, Elliott has picked up a pair of wins with two commitments over the Hokies. Three-star athlete DeMari Carter committed to Virginia over Virginia Tech. That commitment came shortly after three-star defensive back Jayden Covil committed to the Cavaliers.

If you think the last Covil rings a bell, well it should. His older brother Sherrod is playing for the Hokies this season after coming over from Clemson in the transfer portal. These are two rare losses in recruiting for Pry to Elliott.

Virginia Tech baseball adds GM

Virginia Tech baseball coach John Szefc has a new general manager, Easton Dally, who will also hold the title of director of baseball operations. He comes with valuable experience after spending the last six seasons working under East Carolina coach Cliff Godwin.

“Easton will be a tremendous addition to our program here at Virginia Tech,” said Szefc. “He has extensive experience coming from East Carolina (while) working with the baseball program.

“I look forward to sharing our operation with Easton – especially to the new ideas he brings with him. He was very highly recommended by the East Carolina coaching staff, which we have a great deal of respect for. Easton makes for a great combination with our program and I look forward to working with him day-to-day.”
