After the Virginia Tech football team was outplayed and outcoached badly in the second half of Saturday night's 44-20 loss to Vanderbilt, it was the last straw for the fanbase with Brent Pry. His seat is getting hotter by the week.

After the Commodores improved to 2-0 and dropped the Hokies to 0-2, Vandy coach Clark Lea spoke about Pry and Virginia Tech. It sounds like he was going down the same road as Shane Beamer last weekend in giving his support to the Hokies' fourth-year head coach.

"I got a ton of respect for Brent Pry and that coaching staff and that team, and you know, again, what they did early on,'' Lea said. "They put us on our heels. I just credit our players for digging in in the second half and fighting back. We were able to punch through there in the fourth quarter and separate, but this is a team that I think, Virginia Tech, is going to have a chance to win a bunch of games, and I got a ton of respect for them."

We'll see what happens, but reading between the lines, another vote of confidence for Pry from an SEC coach.

Volleyball completes Delaware sweep

It was a successful trip for the Hokies volleyball team to Delaware over the weekend in the Blue Hen Invitational. After sweeping their two matches on Friday, they completed a sweep of the weekend with a 3-0 victory over Le Moyne.

Payton Woods was named MVP for Virginia Tech, and Ainsley Ranstead was named to the All-Tournament Team for the Hokies, who are 5-1 ahead of the Hokie Invitational, which begins Thursday at 6 p.m. against Marshall at Cassell Coliseum.

Women's soccer vs. William & Mary

The Hokies women's soccer team, ranked 20th, settled for a 3-3 non-conference tie with William & Mary at Thompson Field in what was a wild second half. The two teams combined for five goals in the final 45 minutes.

Hannah Pachan opened the scoring for the Hokies (4-2-2) in the 19th minute, while Anna Weir in the 59th minute and Taylor Lewin in the 71st minute scored the other Virginia Tech goals.

Virginia Tech will open ACC play on Thursday night at home against North Carolina at 7 p.m.
