If you think things are rough in Blacksburg now, try being a Boston College fan. The Eagles entered the season with a new roster and some big additions through the Transfer Portal. They were hoping to not only get to a bowl game, but a rather big one, and be a factor in the ACC.
That has not gone to plan as the Eagles are 1-8 and falling apart at the seems. Second-year head coach Bill O'Brien could be on te hot seat sooner rather than later. On Tuesday, he's snapped at a reporter when he was asked a question.
“I’m glad you’re down. I’m not down, nobody’s down. We’re fighting, we’re competing,” O’Brien said. “It’s the second year of this program. You always come in here with these down questions. Once a month or something like that you come in here with these down questions. I’m not down. I don’t know what year you graduated from BC, but this is a program that we’re building.
“Nobody here is down. We’re positive. We’re going to show up and play our asses off against SMU. You can go out there in your dark-clouded world and do what you want to do, but we’re not down. The sun is up, and we’re fighting. That’s my message to the fans.”
Mike Young pleased with low turnovers in opener
Last year was a nightmare for the Hokies' men's basketball team and head coach Mike Young when it came to turnovers. It was a nightly headache that was a big reason why Virginia Tech struggled as badly as it did. Against Charleston Southern on Monday night, they only had seven.
"Yeah, I am,'' said Young when asked if he was encouraged by the low number. "Nineteen assists, seven turnovers. Those are Virginia Tech numbers. Yeah, I felt good about it. I really did. Now, that'll be a big key on Saturday against Providence, who's really getting after people. We're going to have to take care of the ball."
Providence will be a step up in talent on Saturday afternoon and will test the Hokies turnover numbers.
Men's soccer kicks off ACC Tournament
The Hokies men's soccer team kicks off the ACC Tournament on Wednesday night. The 11th-seed Hokies head to New York to play sixth-seeded Syracuse at 6 p.m. on the ACC Network Extra. Virginia Tech needs a win to feel good about receiving an NCAA Tournament bid in a couple of weeks.
