Through the first three weeks of the 2026 season, the Virginia Tech football team once again opened with their three non-conference games against VMI, Old Dominion, and Maryland. Those times and TV assignments were determined before the season began, but when it comes to conference games on Saturdays, times and TV assignments are generally released 12 days ahead of time.
That was the case for the Hokies' first ACC game on Sept. 26 at Boston College, and on Monday, the ACC released the time, but not the TV choice yet.
Virginia Tech gets an early kickoff time at Boston College
After a trip to Maryland this upcoming weekend for a night game against the Terrapins, the Hokies will head to Chestnut Hill on Sept. 26 for a noon kickoff against the Eagles.
Now, this will be Virginia Tech's second noon kickoff after playing Old Dominion at home this past weekend and rolling to a 44-21 victory. After the game, Franklin made a comment about how Hokies fans like the noon kickoff time and they still show up without complaining. As you can imagine, Penn State fans took that and ran with it, spinning it toward them when they were not mentioned.
As far as Boston College goes, this is a big season for head coach Bill O'Brien, who is one of a handful of ACC coaches on the hot seat to begin the season. The Eagles were beaten soundly by Cincinnati in their first game, but rebounded and beat Rutgers last Friday night at home. This week they get Maine, so there's a very good chance that BC will be going into the game on a winning streak and a team that is playing hard for their head coach.
The noon kickoff time actually works out well for the Hokies, and it should really come as a surprise, as Virginia Tech will have a quick turnaround the following week, hosting Pittsburgh on Friday night at Lane Stadium. After that, the Hokies will head to Northern California the following weekend at Cal, which wraps up a tough stretch of three road games in four weeks.
