After a demoralizing loss to Pittsburgh at home on Friday night, 35-33, the Virginia Tech football team will head to California on Saturday afternoon to hit the official halfway point of the 2026 season. Sitting at 4-1, the Hokies will look to rebound in James Franklin's first season in Blacksburg.

The schedule is going to get tougher for Virginia Tech with three out of the next four games away from Lane Stadium beginning on Saturday at Cal. The one home game in the stretch of road games that also includes a bye the last weekend in October is next weekend, Oct. 17, when Georgia Tech visits. On Monday, the ACC released the kickoff time for that game.

Virginia Tech football kickoff time against Georgia Tech announced

Virginia Tech will get a second straight kickoff time of 3:30 when they host Georgia Tech for Homecoming Weekend, and it will also be broadcast on the ACC Network.

As mentioned above, this is the only home game for the Hokies between now and Nov. 14, when Stanford makes the cross-country trip in the middle of the month. After hosting the Yellow Jackets, Virginia Tech has a trip on Oct. 24 to Clemson to face Dabo Swinney and the Tigers, as well as a trip to Dallas, Texas, the first weekend in November, to face Kevin Jennings and SMU in another standalone Friday night game.

As for Georgia Tech, the Yellow Jackets are off to a 1-3 start this season and had a bye this past weekend after losing two weeks ago at Stanford. Last season, Georgia Tech rolled to a win over the Hokies in Atlanta behind quarterback Haynes King. However, this season has been a struggle for Georgia Tech and head coach Brent Key through the first month of the season. They have home losses to Colorado and Tennessee, while their one win to date has been over Mercer.

Both teams have tough weekend matchups this upcoming weekend, with the Hokies flying across the country to play the Golden Bears, while the Yellow Jackets will welcome undefeated Duke to Atlanta on Saturday afternoon at 3:30, the same time the Hokies kick off with Cal. First things first for both teams is their matchups this weekend with different opponents before the focus shifts to Week 7.
