If there was one takeaway from the first 10 days of the transfer portal, it's that Virginia Tech is going to need help in the secondary for 2025. Gone are Dorian Strong, Mansoor Delane, and Mose Phillips to name a few. Strong is headed to the NFL, Delane is going to LSU and Phillips is going to Missouri.
The Hokies have some young talented players coming back, but without a doubt, they needed to add some experience and depth through the transfer portal. Twelve days into the portal being open, the commitments are starting to roll in fast and furious for Brent Pry, and Saturday night, they added an underrated cornerback from East Carolina.
Isaiah Brown-Murray commits to Virginia Tech
East Carolina's Isaiah Brown-Murray, who has two years of eligibility remaining, committed to the Hokies on Saturday night. This season for the Pirates, who are playing North Carolina State in the Go Bowling Military Bowl on Dec. 28, Brown-Murphy had 42 tackles, six passes defended, one fumble recovery, and one interception.
Clemson transfer safety Sherrod Covil, Jr. was the first player to come to the Hokies through the portal in this cycle on Wednesday night, which happened to be the same day that Brown-Murray visited Tech. A three-star recruit out of high school, he played over 1,200 snaps at East Carolina and has totaled 69 tackles.
According to 247Sports, Brown-Murray had other offers from Louisville, Kansas, and Arkansas among others. He told the outlet the reason why he picked Virginia Tech.
"It was the best situation for me," Brown-Murray said. "I really loved Coach Cheetah and Coach Pry, and they made me feel like they can take my game to the next level."
If he is able to take his game to the next level, Virginia Tech and Brent Pry will be very happy.
