It has been over two weeks since the University of Michigan fired head football coach Sherrone Moore with cause. Since he was fired, there have been several names linked to the position, incuding Louisville coach Jeff Brohm. It appears that he'll be remaining in the ACC and not heading to Ann Arbor.

Michigan is going the route that some expected in hiring former Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham. He had a very successful run at Utah and is the perfect hire to come in and reset the Wolverines program. Considering how late into the coaching carousel Michigan entered, this is a solid hire.
Virginia Tech offers four-star RB out of Georgia
Just like James Franklin did when he was hired at Virginia Tech, his new running backs coach, Norval McKenzie, is hitting the ground running. Recently hired from Georgia Tech, the Hokies have entered the mix for a highly sought-after Class of 2027 running back, according to Evan Watkins of VTScoop.
Virginia Tech has offered four-star running back Quinterrius Gipson from Marietta, Georgia. He has nearly three dozen offers, and the 5-foot-8, 205-pound back will have no shortage of options when he makes a decision.
Transfer Portal happenings
- Things are going to start picking up when it comes to the Transfer Portal. When it comes to some former Hokies, Xavier Chaplin is expected to enter again, as is another former Virginia Tech offensive lineman, Johnny Dickson. After spending some time with North Texas, he announced that he's entering the portal again and should have no shortage of suitors. Could he come back to Blacksburg under Matt Moore and James Franklin?
- Speaking of the portal, do you remember former Virginia quarterback Anthony Colandrea? Yes, the youngster who two years ago predicted the Hokies' demise in Charlottesville only to end up eating those words in Tech's blowout win? Well, he's reportedly hitting the portal again, this time leaving UNLV after a good 2025 season. Colandrea threw for 3,459 yards, 20 touchdowns, and nine interceptions for the Rebels. In their 17-10 Scooter's Frisco Bowl Loss to Ohio, 17-10, on Tuesday night, he threw for 184 yards and one interception. This has Florida State as a potential destination written all over it.
- Virginia Tech got some good retention news ahead of Christmas when running back Marcellous Hawkins announced he was returning. Also returning is safety Jordan Bass for Brent Pry's defense. The Virginia native transferred to Virginia Tech after playing at Pittsburgh.
