When news broke last week that former Virginia Tech wide receiver commit Matthew Outten was hitting the Transfer Portal, it made sense that the Hokies might be in the mix for the Virginia native. First, the Class of 2025 four-star committed to Virginia Tech before flipping his commitment on Labor Day Weekend in 2024 to Penn State.
He signed with the Nittany Lions and spent last season in State College with James Franklin. When Franklin was hired six weeks after getting fired at Penn State, a reunion with Outten seemed to make too much sense. He would be coming home to play for Franklin, who retained former head coach Brent Pry as his defensive coordinator after being fired as head coach. There is also the Fontel Mines connection after Franklin retained him.
It all will be for not after Outten committed to Syracuse in the portal and will be in the ACC for 2026.
Virginia Tech lands another Penn State commit
It's worth saying again, the Penn State to Virginia Tech pipeline in the Transfer Portal is alive and well. Franklin has been landing some of his former players at Penn State and bringing them to Blacksburg. On Monday, the Hokies landed another former Nittany Lions player when defensive tackle Randy Adirika committed to Virginia Tech.
As a freshman in 2025, the 6-foot-3, 308-pound Miami native logged 16 snaps for Penn State and is another big addition to new defensive line Sean Spencer's unit.
Virginia Tech LB reportedly entering the Transfer Portal
Another player from the Virginia Tech program is hitting the Transfer Portal. According to VTScoop, linebacker Will Johnson is entering the portal to find a new home for 2025. Johnson primarily played on special teams with the Hokies, unable to crack a deep linebacking group. Best of luck to Will at his next stop.
Virginia adds Missouri transfer QB Beau Pribula
When Missouri quarterback Beau Pribula hit the Transfer Portal, it was thought that Franklin would make a run for his former signal caller at Penn State a few years ago. It will not be the case after Pribula committed to Virginia in the portal on Monday night, according to Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports.
He will replace Chandler Morris, who was denied another season by the NCAA last week. Pribula coming to Blacksburg Thanksgiving Weekend next November to play Franklin is going to certainly have no shortage of storylines.
