Virginia Tech football banged up preparing for Boston College
By Scott Roche
The Virginia Tech football team has depth for the 2024 season, but head coach Brent Pry would rather not have to dive too deep into it. As it turns out, the third-year head coach will have to dive deeper into it than he wants.
After the bye week, the Hokies will host Boston College at Lane Stadium on Thursday night, Oct. 17, and they will be shorthanded once again. Kemari Copeland has been lost for the season and now it appears that the defense is taking another huge hit.
Brent Pry gives tough injury news
This week Pry told the media that it’s unlikely that safety Jalen Stroman will play again this season. He left the season-opening loss at Vanderbilt on Aug. 31 after five tackles, four solo, in the 34-27 overtime loss. Since that game, you could tell in Pry’s voice that eventually the news wasn’t going to be great and it appears that the secondary will now take a hit.
On offense, running back PJ Prioleau, who show in spurts in the spring game and in game action this season that he can be the next relied oin ball carrier down the line for the Hokies. He hits the holes hard, he has next-level speed when he gets to the second level and is tough to bring down. He was injured agaist Stanford and Pry said that he will be out a good amount of time.
The news hasn’t been great lately with injuries, but the news surrounding one offensive player has been positive. Wide receiver Ali Jennings, whose time in Blacksburg has been filled with injuries and missing games, could be available against the Eagles next week. Pry said that the bye week helped him in his recovery. If Jennings can get on the field against BC, that’s another offensive playmaker for offensive coordinator Tyler Bowen and quarterback Kyron Drones.
