If there is one thing that we have learned this offseason with the Virginia Tech men's basketball, it's that on paper, they look to be much-improved for the 2025-26 season and and the potential is there for them to be a very exciting team to watch on a nightly basis.
Veteran coach Mike Young brought in some transfers, but the biggest addition very well may be coming with freshman Neoklis Avdalas, who withdrew from the NBA Draft process in June and kept his verbal commitment to the Hokies and signed. The returns have been nothing but exciting, and along with his new teammates, they will be put to the test before ACC play begins in full with an interesting non-conference schedule.
Virginia Tech men's basketball releases 2025-26 non-conference schedule
On Friday morning, Virginia Tech dropped its non-conference schedule for the upcoming season, and it has 13 games, with three coming in the Battle 4 Atlantis from Nov. 26-28. The first round of that tourney will be announced at a later date, but the other 10 games were released, with eight of the 10 games at home. The teams expected to play in the Battle 4 Atlantis with the Hokies are Saint Mary’s, Vanderbilt, South Florida, VCU, Colorado State, Western Kentucky, and Wichita State. Not exactly a loaded field by any means compared to years past.
Circle the dates. Pack Cassell. Our squad is must-see 👀💥🔜🏀

Virginia Tech will open the season on Nov. 3 against Charleston Southern, then five nights later, they will play Providence in Uncasville, CT. They will have three home games with Saint Joseph's, Charlotte, and Bryant before heading to Paradise Island in the Bahamas for the Battle 4 Atlantis Thanksgiving Weekend.
They will then head to South Carolina as part of the ACC/SEC Challenge on Dec. 2, before their last four non-conference games at home before Christmas against George Mason, Western Carolina, Maryland Eastern Shore, and Elon.
There are a lot of games on this schedule to beef up the win total before conference play begins, but two A-10 teams, Saint Joseph's, which beat the Hokies last December in Philadelphia, and George Mason, could be resumé wins come March, but Tech will need to some damage in the Battle 4 Atlantis to beef up their win total in the non-conference. Truth be told, aside from Saint Joseph's and George Mason, there are six "bye games" on the home slate if they want to get to where they want to go this winter. Anything below 10 wins out of the 13 games should be considered a disappointment.
