According to the X post, the Hokies are going to don an orange jersey and matching orange pants for the season opener. The game has been labeled an "Orange Effect" and fans have been implored to wear their orange in the stands. As you can expect, this reveal struck a nerve with Little Brother's fanbase.
As you can see, Virginia fans think that one win over the worst Virginia Tech team in decades and one 11-win season where everything went right were when Virginia football history began in 2025. It's rather funny how they forget what has happened over the last couple of decades on the field in terms of results. However, if they can come into Blacksburg and beat the Hokies this year, then that would be called a winning streak, a phrase that is not typically in their vocabulary.
As for the uniform combination, it is one that the Hokies have worn before, as they wore the shirt-and-pants combination last year when they played South Carolina in Atlanta in the season opener. So no, this isn't the first time that they have worn this combination. However, noticeably missing from the reveal was the helmet, leaving many to speculate what it'll be.
Despite the coach speaking from Franklin about VMI, this should be a cakewalk in the season opener for the Hokies and an opportunity for a lot of players to get some key playing time. The bench should be emptied early in the second half.
The game is a sellout, and Virginia Tech didn't need to go to Costco and offer deals to buy (or give away) tickets to make sure they could puff their chest about their first sellout in over a decade. Anyway, James Franklin will restore the Commonwealth Cup order in November, and wearing the orange shirts and orange pants might push Little Brother over the edge more than the reveal for the season opener did.
