All week long, the Virginia Tech football team has been dealing with injuries to some key players on the offensive side of the ball. Last week in their 44-20 loss to Vanderbilt, the Hokies lost two key offensive linemen, Montavious Cunningham and Johnny Garrett.
Head coach Brent Pry was hoping that one or both players would be able to take the field on Saturday night at Lane Stadium when the Hokies host Old Dominion, and it appears that the injury news is mixed and the availability for one is still up in the air.
Virginia Tech gets mixed injury news ahead of Old Dominion must-win game
The good news is that Montavious Cunningham was dressed and going through warmups, but he was doing so with the twos, not the ones. As for Garrett? He isn't dressed, and according to Andy Bitter of Tech Sideline is in a walking boot. In some other good news, wide receiver Takye Heath, who was injured before the Vanderbilt game, was dressed and going through warmups, according to Bitter. Also out is Brody Meadows.
This is another must-win game for Virginia Tech, and they'll be looking for their first win of 2025 with another makeshift offensive line in front of Kyron Drones. Last week, when they lost Cunningham and Garrett for the second half, you saw how the Commodores attacked the Hokies' offense and completely shut them down. If that happens this week against the Monarchs, then the red flag should be raised even more on the season.
It'll be interesting to see how the line looks and how freshman Aidan Lynch plays with a week of practice with the ones. Expect Old Dominion to test them early with some pressure to see how they handle it.
