When Elizabeth Kitley's college career came to an end at Virginia in March of 2024, little did she know what the future held for her. After suffering a torn ACL in the regular season final against Virginia, which cost her the ACC Tournament, NCAA Tournament, and her first WNBA season, she was able to rehab and make her WNBA debut this past season.
In between the end of her career in Blacksburg and her pro career, Kitley had her number raised to the rafters at Cassell Coliseum in January. On Thursday, she is making a return to the Virginia Tech program with head coach Megan Duffy.

Duffy announced that Kitley is returning to join her staff as the Assistant to the Head Coach, External Operations. She will also have broadcasting roles on the Virginia Tech Sports Network radio and ACC Network Extra broadcasts.

βWe are thrilled to welcome Virginia Tech legend Liz Kitley to our staff,β said Duffy on a school release. βLiz is one of the most recognizable faces in the region. While we are so proud of her illustrious playing career, we now get to feel her presence in our community outreach, donor and NIL efforts. She will serve as a tremendous role model for our student-athletes on and off the court. Weβre excited to have her back to help the Hokies, while she also prepares for the next steps with professional basketball.β
Kitley had a rough WNBA season this year. The Las Vegas Aces cut her after drafting her in April of 2024, and she rehabbed her injury with them. She was then signed by the Golden State Valkyries to a contract after an injury, but she didn't stick around there long.
Having Kitley back with the program in any role is big, and this is a good addition by Duffy. During her playing days in Blacksburg, Kitley holds 13 records while being an All-American, three-time ACC Player of the Year, four-time All-ACC First Team selection, and three-time ACC All-Defensive Team honoree.
