After splitting two games in the ACC Tournament, Virginia Tech baseball feels very good about its chances to make the NCAA Tournament next week. The Hokies were on the right side of the bubble going to Charlotte and all but solidified their spot in the 64-team field by splitting two games.

They opened the second round with a win over Notre Dame, before hanging tough with North Carolina, before the Tar Heels pulled away late in the quarterfinals for a 10-4 victory. The win over the Irish was the Hokies 30th against what was a difficult schedule both in the non-conference and conference.

Virginia Tech played both games in the tournament minus their top pitcher, Brent Renfrow, which certainly raised some eyebrows with the fans. After the loss to UNC, head coach John Sezefc said that he wasn't fully recovered from his last start last week against Clemson. That is rather concerning that eight days later, after making his last start, he wasn't fully recovered to pitch against Notre Dame or UNC. Anyway, the latest bracketology at D1 Baseball has the Hokies heading to a regional against a familiar face.

Latest Virginia Tech baseball bracketology from D1 Baseball has Hokies heading to Mississippi State

D1 Baseball released their latest bracketology on Saturday, and they have Virginia Tech as the third-seed in the Starkville Regional at Mississippi State, which is projected to be the 16th-seed and final host for the opening weekend.

Joining Virginia Tech with the Bulldogs is Oregon as the second-seeded and Lamar as the fourth-seeded. If the Hokies end up going to Mississippi State, they would run into a former ACC head coach, Brian O'Connor, who left Virginia following last season to lead the Bulldogs.

Virginia Tech would be matched up with Oregon, which would be the second time the Hokies and Ducks have met in the NCAA Tournament this year. The women's basketball programs met in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in March, which was won by the Ducks. Virginia Tech and Mississippi State met earlier this season in the Amegy Bank College Baseball Series, which the Bulldogs won, 15-8.
