We are two weeks away from the 2025 college baseball season starting. It's hard to believe and this season will be the first ACC season with two of three new schools to the conference, Stanford, and California will compete for the first time.

Another sign that we are getting closer to the season is that preseason polls are being released after the top 25 projections were released over the last couple of weeks. As far as Virginia Tech goes, the Hokies will be returning to the diamond this season looking to get the nightmare finish of last season out of their minds.

Virginia Tech was projected in a lot of projections in the middle of the season to be part of the NCAA Tournament, but things went sideways quickly for head coach John Szefc and his team. Once a lock for the tournament and even the ACC Tournament, the Hokies stumbled down the stretch to get into the conference tourney and they ended up being eliminated before the semifinals to end their season.

This season Virginia Tech returns some key contributors from last season as they look the take the next step and get back into the NCAA Tournament. If they do, they will have to do it against another loaded conference and schedule. Thursday, the ACC baseball preseason coaches poll was released and it has the Hokies finishing in the bottom half of the conference at No. 12.

Some quick takeaways from the poll. Stanford, which was a regular participant in the NCAA Tournament when they were in the PAC-12, is picked eighth out of 16 schools. The other first-year member, Cal, is picked 13th, right behind Virginia Tech.

The conference is top-heavy with familiar names, Virginia, Florida State, North Carolina, and Clemson, but as we saw last season with FSU, just finding a way into the NCAA Tournament field, anyone can get on a run to end up in Omaha and the College World Series.

If the Hokies are going to get into the ACC and NCAA Tournament's, then they'll earn it.
