When Virginia Tech hired James Franklin as their next football coach to replace his good friend Brent Pry, that signaled a potential major move in terms of recruiting in Blacksburg. Franklin, year in and year out, had tremendous recruiting classes at Penn State and even did some major damage when it came to recruiting in the Commonwealth.

Franklin also had a ton of success in recruiting in the Northeast, and he put in a lot of time there. When it comes to the Class of 2026, he was able to flip several recruits from Penn State to Virginia Tech to bring in a talented freshman class. As far as recruiting in the Class of 2027 goes, it's beginning to heat up, and it appears that Franklin and his staff are moving in on a Michigan commit from Massachusetts.

Virginia Tech in the mix to try and flip four-star Michigan commit

Back in August, Tabor Academy four-star quarterback Peter Bourque committed to Michigan and former head coach Sherrone Moore. However, in December, Moore was let go and replaced by former Utah coach Kyle Whittingham. Despite the coaching change, Bourque remains committed to the Wolverines, but Franklin and Virginia Tech are entering the mix.

Franklin offered Bourque a scholarship in December and has entered the mix with Penn State and Georgia. In January, Franklin made a trip to Marion, Mass., to meet with several recruits, including Bourque. It isn't so surprising to see the Hokies in the mix here.

The 6-foot-4, 220-pound Bourque is a big-time pocket passer for Tabor Academy. Virginia Tech's current quarterback room is young, very young for next season, with Penn State transfer Ethan Grunkemeyer, North Carolina transfer Bryce Baker, incoming freshman Troy Huhn, and a pair of redshirt freshmen holdovers from the previous staff in Kelden Ryan and AJ Brand.

As far as Bourque and Virginia Tech go, this recruitment is certainly one to keep an eye on.
