We are approaching Labor Day Weekend, which means the college football season gets into full gear for the 2026 season. That also means that the NFL season is right around the corner, and NFL rosters have been set, for now, at 53, and some players who were cut over the weekend are finding a home on practice squads.
There were some former Hokies players who were cut, that were a bit surprising. It isn't easy to make a roster out of camp, and it isn't easy to cut players to get down to 53. However, some former Virginia Tech players made the cut, and some are primed for a big season in 2026. Here is the Virginia Tech NFL tracker of players on current rosters and players on practice squads. This list could change over the coming days and weeks.
Former Virginia Tech football players on NFL 53-man rosters
- Jacksonville Jaguars: RB Bhayshul Tuten
- Detroit Lions: CB Chuck Clark
- Tennessee Titans: K Joey Slye
- Green Bay Packers: QB Tyrod Taylor
- Houston Texans: OL Wyatt Teller
- Kansas City Chiefs: S Chamarri Conner
- Atlanta Falcons: LB Divine Deablo
- Minnesota Vikings: OL Christian Darrisaw
- New York Giants: LB Tremaine Edmunds
- Washington Commanders: WR/KR Jaylin Lane
- Washington Commanders: DL Tim Settle
- Baltimore Ravens: DL Aeneas Peebles
- Pittsburgh Steelers: OL Brock Hoffman
Some names above primed for a big season are Bhayshul Tuten with the Jaguars after a good rookie season in 2025. Jaylin Lane had a strong first season returning kicks for the Commanders, and Aeneas Peebles had a strong training camp to earn a spot with the Ravens. Tremaine Edmunds changed teams this offseason, going from the Chicago Bears to the Giants, and Joey Slye answered any questions about a potential position battle with the Titans with a strong camp.
Former Virginia Tech football players on NFL practice squads
- New York Jets: LB Jaden Keller
- Buffalo Bills: WR Stephen Gosnell
- Buffalo Bills: LB Keonta Jenkins
- Detroit Lions: TE James Mitchell
Jenkins is the biggest surprise on this list after he had a very good camp and preseason, but again, making a 53-man roster isn't as easy as it looks. Expect him to be elevated at some point this season, as he was last season.
