Ugly Virginia Tech Football Report Card From Frustrating Loss at Duke

Virginia Tech offensive report card from loss at Duke
It wasn't their fault. Collin Schlee was injured on the final play of the first quarter and Pop Watson played the final three quarters and made some big plays. He stepped up in the pocket and made several big throws on third and longs to pick up first downs. Yes, he made some bad throws and decisions, but that's what you expect from a freshman in his first game on the road.
Bhayshul Tuten returned to the lineup and ran the ball well. He had 84 yards on 19 carries and a fourth-quarter touchdown. On his touchdown run, he broke a tackle and looked like the back he was before suffering his injury against Georgia Tech on Oct. 26. Jeremiah Coney had 22 yards on five carries, and would like to see more of him against Virginia.
Ali Jennings showed Hokies' fans the hype surrounding him when he transferred from Old Dominion. Injuries have been a huge part of his time in Blacksburg, but against Duke, he had six catches for 158 yards including a 65-yard touchdown reception. Ayden Greene had a touchdown in the second quarter on an end-around.
Benji Gosnell had just one catch for 9 yards and Harrison Saint Germain had one catch for 14 yards. They were also part of an offensive line that struggled to block for Schlee and Watson. It might benefit Virginia Tech if they work the tight ends more into the offense. Just a thought.
I mean, what else is there to say? Another terrible night for the offensive line. Duke had eight sacks and 14 tackles for a loss. Those are stunning stats considering the final margin was just three points. Watson got a taste of what Drones and Schlee have been dealing with all season. The offensive line couldn't block anyone and Duke brought pressure all night long. Expect Virginia to do the same.
