Looking to become bowl-eligible with a win at Duke on Saturday night, the Virginia Tech football team continued their November slide with another disappointing performance. A slow start, explosive plays by Duke, and self-inflected mistakes all added up to a 31-28 loss to the Blue Devils.

With the loss, the Hokies are now 5-6 and must beat Virginia at Lane Stadium next Saturday night just to become bowl-eligible. By the way, the Cavaliers lost to SMU at home on Saturday and they will come to Blacksburg at 5-6. That's right, we have a winner going bowling and the loser having their season end. Not what we were expecting when the season began, to say the least.

After a third straight loss in the month of November, here is the latest Virginia Tech Football report card.

Virginia Tech football report card vs. Duke

A+. . . Fans. ACC

Duke didn't exactly fill their own stadium and once again, Virginia Tech fans showed out. Hokies' fans get one more home game next week against Virginia on Senior Day at Lane Stadium. Hokies' fans deserve better.

F. . . Coaching. ACC

They had two weeks off to examine everything from the previous 10 games and once again, they did not have their players prepared and ready to go. Another slow start on both sides of the ball. Offensively, there were some questionable play calls, defensively, once again, explosive plays put them behind the eight-ball early and often. Not many, if any, adjustments were made.

. . Special Teams. ACC. A

Peter Moore had a good game punting, and the huge opening kick-off was brought back by a penalty, but John Love was perfect on field goals and wasn't given an opportunity to get more chances.
