The Virginia Tech baseball team returned to the NCAA Tournament in 2026, but it was a short stay. The second seed in the Los Angeles Regional, which was hosted by the tournament's overall No. 1 seed UCLA, the Hokies dropped their first two games. They lost to Cal Poly in the opener, 6-2, before they were three outs away from knocking off the top-seed Bruins, only to allow three runs in the bottom of the ninth to lose, 6-5, ending their run.

On Monday (June 1), the Transfer Portal officially opened, and there are going to be some changes surrounding the Hokies' roster. Whether it's players leaving or coming, this is a big offseason for coach John Szefc and his staff in terms of retention and adding from the portal.

There are 10 Hokies who have used up all of their eligibility, and another dozen who could hear their names called in July in the MLB Draft. If they aren't going to be drafted, then the question is, can Szefc retain them, or will they hit the portal during the window in case they are not drafted? So many questions with so many big answers coming. With that said, here is a Virginia Tech baseball Transfer Portal tracker for the 2026 offseason.

A left-handed pitcher, Swift is hitting the portal after two seasons in Blacksburg. Over his time with the Hokies, he threw 51.2 innings, with 85 strikeouts and an ERA of 3.83. He allowed 39 hits and 22 runs. This is a tough start for Szefc and his staff.
