Top recruits flocking to Virginia Tech for official visit under James Franklin

When it was officially announced on Monday night that James Franklin was hired as the next football coach at Virginia Tech, he hit the ground running. He started reaching out to recruits before the ink dried on the contract he signed.

The timing of the announcement of the hiring could not have been perfect with the Hokies' final home game on Saturday against 13th-ranked Miami. A major underdog, the day was more about recruiting than it was for Franklin. Yes, of course, he got a chance to evaluate the roster closely, but it was also about bringing the recruits on campus and getting them used to the atmosphere. Yes, Enter Sandman.

There were a number of recruits from Penn State that Franklin got commitments from that made their way to Blacksburg for the weekend, and it was loaded with three and four-star recruits, something rarely seen under the previous staff.

Recruits flock to Virginia Tech for matchup with Miami

It was reported earlier this week by Rivals that Penn State commits were coming to Blacksburg, and they weren't kidding.

While there were some players still committed to the Nittany Lions, some de-commits are in attendance as well.

Say what you will, but this is going to be the next big couple of weeks for James Franklin with the early-signing period creeping up closely. Let's be honest, we are at a time in college football where players are committing to the coaches and not the school with NIL. It wouldn't be surprising to see Franklin pick up a flip or two after this weekend or get a commitment from a player who de-committed from Penn State after his firing.

Franklin is expected to host another recruiting weekend while the Hokies are at Virginia to close out the 2025 season next weekend before the building for 2026 and beyond officially begins.
