James Djonkam: Edge

Virginia Tech lost some key talent along the defensive line to the NFL Draft, which forced Pry to hit the portal to replace some of those players on the fly. One player brought in was Eastern Michigan edge James Djonkam.

A Virginia native, Djonkam registered 98 tackles last season for the Eagles at linebacker, but he'll be making the transition to defensive edge this season. The 6-foot-2, 258-pound Springfield native played two seasons at Arizona State before spending last season at Eastern Michigan. He'll be looking to make the most of his one season at Tech.

Dante Lovett: Cornerback

Last season Dante Lovett played in all 13 games for the Hokies and collected 20 tackles and four pass breakups. He was behind a deep secondary, which either had players leave for the NFL Draft or the Transfer Portal. Now it's his time to shine.

He is, without a doubt, a breakout candidate this season for the Hokies, and he plays with a ton of confidence. He is never going to back down from covering anyone and will always make life difficult for the other team's receivers. He is a veteran of a group that is young and will have to learn on the fly with two very difficult matchups in the first two weeks.
