Earlier this month, Virginia Tech men’s basketball forward Tobi Lawal entered his name into the NBA Draft for this June, however, he kept his college eligibility to withdraw and return for his senior season. He announced that if did withdrew and returned to school, he would play for Mike Young and the Hokies.
On Monday, the NBA released the 106 players to enter the draft process, and as expected, Lawal’s name was there. This is a great experience for him to feel out the process and get some feedback from the next level. In an interview with Mike Barber of Hoops HQ, Lawal tipped his hand at what might be coming decision-wise in the next couple of weeks.
Virginia Tech forward Tobi Lawal reveals his likely decision on the NBA Draft and college basketball
In talking with Barber, Lawal revealed what his plan is for going through the process of and what his likely decision for next season will be.
"The plan is to come back to Tech,’’ Lawal said. “I don’t think I'm ready. But I kind of judge myself much more harshly than other people. So I want to see what everyone else will say."
I think most people had an idea that Lawal was going to end up returning to Virginia Tech for next season. He is still raw in some areas, and even he knows that he is not ready for the next level, yet. That’s not saying that he won’t be able to play at the next level, and another season of college basketball will help him develop and grow more.
If he does end up returning, it’ll give Young another key player returning with the portal additions he’s added and the incoming freshmen, along with Antonio Dorn from Germany. Getting Lawal back would be a huge lift going into next season for the Hokies.
