It seems like everyone and their mother are trying to match Jimbo Fisher with Virginia Tech.
The former Texas A&M and Florida State coach is currently keeping an eye on the conference as an analyst for the ACC Network. It's no secret that Fisher wants to get back into coaching next season and will be actively looking around. ESPN broadcaster Matt Barrie said that he believes Fisher is the right guy in Blacksburg.
"Can we just go ahead and pencil in Jimbo Fisher at Virginia Tech?" I mean that's a match made in heaven, Jimbo Fisher at Virginia Tech," Barrie told Paul Finebaum.
"What's the famous saying....almost heaven Virginia Tech? No, that's West Virginia, but it's close enough," Finebaum retorted.
Barrie and Finebaum aren't the only ones floating Fisher's name out for the Virginia Tech job. SI columnist Pat Forde also believes Fsher could be the right guy to steer the ship for the Hokies.
""Then there is Fisher’s role as an ACC Network analyst. As such, the former national championship winner at Florida State can loom, buzzard-like, over a conference he once dominated. The 59-year-old has stated his desire to coach again, and now look—there is an ACC opening that might be of interest," "Pat Forde, Sports Illustrated
My thoughts: If you build it, Fisher will come
Fisher might be the right guy for the job, but is the job right for him? He can be demanding of the administration if he feels like he doesn't have the resources to compete at a high level. Fisher doesn't have a lot of tact and that's what ended his time at Florida State. It's ironic that right now FSU is constructing the facilities that Fisher suggested they needed 10 years ago, but it wasn't the message as much as it was the messenger.
He also has something to prove. After going 83-23 at FSU, Fisher was hired by Texas A&M because the administration and boosters there believed he could lead the Aggies to a championship. It didn't happen and now Fisher wants to show that he hasn't completely lost his magic.
It appears that most of the Virginia Tech fanbase is willing to give it a shot.
Jimbo Fisher has got to get a call right? Elite ACC Coach who flamed out at Texas A&M (who wouldn't at that cult)

Only has 3 seasons with less than 8 wins in his career How many consecutive 8 win seasons would it take to get fired at VT?
A hundred? 😂 pic.twitter.com/yqoxSWvft5
If the decision makers at Virginia Tech are ready to do their part to get Hokies football back up to speed with the upper half of the Power 4 programs, Fisher would absolutely be interested.
