Spring practices are underway for Virginia Tech and first-year football coach James Franklin. Along with getting things going with his new program on the practice field, this is going to be a busy weekend in terms of recruiting.
One area that Virginia Tech fans should see a rather big change in is recruiting. Sure, Franklin had his flaws at Penn State during his tenure, but he had success as well. However, Nittany Lions fans will tell you that he didn't have much success, but that's another story for another day.
Franklin killed it recruiting while at Penn State, and Hokies fans are hoping he does the game in Blacksburg. On Thursday, Virginia Tech picked up its commitment in the Class of 2027 when defensive lineman Alexander Taylor. Another extremely sought-after recruit in the Class of 2027 is down to five schools, with Virginia Tech making the list.

According to Hayes Fawcett of Rivals, four-star tight end Jordan Karhoff is down to five schools: Virginia Tech, Ohio State, Texas A&M, Miami, and Georgia. The 6-foot-5, 227-pound Columbus, Ohio native has the Hokies on his radar.

According to Steve Wiltfong of Rivals, Virginia Tech is in a prime position to get Karhoff, along with Texas A&M. Karhoff has been on Franklin's radar going well back to his Penn State days, and when he was 14 years old. It also helps that Franklin brought his tight ends coach from Penn State, Ty Howle, to Virginia Tech, where he'll serve as the offensive coordinator for the Hokies.
It's no secret that the tight end position has not been heavily recruited in recent years for the Hokies. With Franklin and Howle in Blacksburg, that is about to change and change quickly, and you're already starting to see it.
