Another athletic season is in the books for Virginia Tech, and we are just a couple of months away from another one kicking into high gear for the 2026-27 season. There were some memorable moments and, well, not so memorable moments on the fields, courts, and mats.
On Monday, Virginia Tech will have its ACC Network takeover day, and we will rank the best moments that will be shown on TV from this past season.
Virginia Tech to be featured on ACC Network all day Monday
9. Baseball vs. James Madison (14-1 win)
The Hokies turned things around on the diamond for John Szefc in April, and they closed out the month with a 14-1 rout of the Dukes at English Field. Virginia Tech scored 14 runs on 13 hits and got four scoreless innings from the bullpen in the run-rule victory.
8. Softball vs. North Carolina (6-5 win)
There were many dramatic wins for the Hokies softball team in 2026, and one of the more memorable ones happened in the middle game of a three-game set in Blacksburg in late April. After giving up two runs in the top of the seventh to fall behind 5-4, Nora Abromavage hit a walk-off two-run homer in the bottom of the inning for Tech's 39th win of the season.
7. Women's Basketball vs. Florida (68-64 win)
Megan Duffy's team hosted Florida in the annual ACC/SEC Challenge back in December, and the Hokies went toe-to-toe with the Gators in what was a resumé building game for the NCAA Tournament. Carys Baker scored 23 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, while Mel Daley had 12 points. Nine different Hokies scored in the win.
6. Men's Soccer vs. Ohio State (1-0 win)
What a way to open a new season. The Hokies men's soccer team hosted No. 3 Ohio State and came away with a stunning 1-0 win on a goal in the 40th minute from freshman Cole Beutel. A seventh career clean sheet from keeper Sam Joseph helped to get the Hokies off on the right foot in 2025.
5. Men's Basketball at Clemson (76-66 win)
It was a frustrating season of so many close losses in ACC play for Mike Young's team, but the Hokies' most impressive road win was over No. 20 Clemson in February. In a game that became back-and-forth in the second half, Jailen Bedford's 23 points powered Virginia Tech to a 10-point win. He made some clutch shots for the Hokies to keep the Tigers at bay.
4. Women's Basketball at Virginia (83-82 win)
The Hokies built a huge lead and were going to run the Cavaliers out of John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville. However, UVA rallied late in the game and took an 82-81 lead, but Carleigh Wenzel was fouled and sank two free throws with 1.7 seconds left for the one-point victory. What a win heading into the ACC Tournament.
3. Football Spring Game
After Brent Pry was fired last September and Virginia Tech hired James Franklin; the excitement around Blacksburg was noticeable. After a long spring, the annual spring game was played in front of jubilant fans at Lane Stadium, who are more than excited about the future beginning in a little less than two months.
2. Men's Basketball vs. Virginia (95-85, 3OT win)
What a way to kick off ACC play on New Year's Eve for the Hokies. They battled Virginia through regulation and three overtimes before emerging with a 10-point win over the 21st-ranked Cavaliers. Virginia Tech played without Tobi Lawal and Tyler Johnson, who were injured. They got 17 points each from Amani Hansberry, Christian Gurdak, and Neoklis Avdalas. Gurdak hauled down 19 rebounds, and Hansberry had 15. In a season that was filled with frustration, what an afternoon that was in Blacksburg.
1. Wrestling wins second consecutive ACC Championship
Head coach Tony Robie has built a wagon on the mats in Blacksburg, and in March, the Hokies went back-to-back as ACC Champions. They accomplished the feat at home in front of a record crowd of 4,692 fans. They tallied 106 points, which was 22 more than second-place Stanford. The Hokies earned 10 automatic qualifiers for the NCAA Championship, which was held a couple of weeks later in Cleveland.
