After almost nine months, we have Virginia Tech football is back when the Hokies kick off the season in Nashville against SEC foe Vanderbilt. It will be an 11 a.m. local kick-off and expect a lot of Virginia Tech fans to be in attendance.

There is a lot of hype surrounding the Hokies entering 2024 while the Commodores are looking to continue their rebuild in one of college football's toughest conferences. As we have reached gameday, let's take one last look at the odds of the game and give our prediction.

Virginia Tech vs. Vanderbilt final odds & prediction

According to DraftKings, Virginia Tech is still a 13.5-point favorite. That line has been pretty consistent since the line came out and seems like a rather fair line.

Friday Vanderbilt announced that the game has been sold out and something tells me, there are going to be a lot of Virginia Tech fans in the stands making it nearly a 50-50 crowd. The Hokies enter the game with more talent across the board, but that doesn't translate to wins on the field.

Virginia Tech's offense should be much further along than Vanderbilt's with all the retainment the Hokies got and having a full offseason together. They return nearly all of their production from last season and should be able to move the ball on the Commodores.

Vanderbilt will likely start New Mexico State transfer Diego Pavia who is one of the better athletes at his position as he can run the ball and throw it all over the field. Last season for the Aggies, he had 26 touchdown passes to nine interceptions. He'll be going up against a deep Hokies defensive line and they should be better at containing the running game this season.

In the end, it comes down to talent and right now, the Hokies have a big advantage in that area which should be the difference.

Prediction: Virginia Tech 31, Vanderbilt 16
