Virginia Tech vs. Miami: How to Watch, Odds, History

If you thought the first four weeks of the season was tough for the Virginia Tech football, wait until they play what awaits them in the ACC. Conference play for the Hokies kicks off at No. 7 Miami on Friday night. Coming off a disappointing 26-23 loss at home to Rutgers, Tech finds itself in a position to face a must-win on the road against the conference’s best team to date this season.
When the schedule was released, a lot of people we looking at a potential matchup of ranked teams and two undefeated teams. Miami did its part, winning all four of their non-conference games while Virginia Tech stumbled with a pair of tough losses to swallow against Vanderbilt and Rutgers. Now looking to bounce back with a clean slate in ACC play, they face their most difficult challenge right out of the gate.

This line opened at 17.5 points in favor of the Hurricanes on Sunday according to DraftKings and it has slowly risen since then. At the time of this article being written, Miami is a 19.5-point favorite. It seems like a lot of points, but considering how both teams have looked in the first month of the season, taking the Hurricanes to cover feels like a safe bet right now.

These two teams have played 40 times and they are going to play every single season going forward in the new-look ACC. Miami holds a 25-15 series edge, but it’s something that both coaches are looking forward to not only this season, but also in the future.
"We have an opportunity to open up conference play against one of our storied rivals," Cristobal said. "I can't say enough about them. I think we've seen enough tape to know these guys are as talented as anybody we have faced and then some."
Unless something crazy happens, it’s hard not to like Miami in this game as the Hurricanes will look to add to Virginia Tech’s early-season struggles.
