Duke transfer Jaden Schutt adds more shooting depth

Hammond wasn’t the only player to commit to Virginia Tech in May. They got a surprising commitment from Duke transfer Jaden Schutt, who played sparingly for the Blue Devils in 2022-23 averaging 2.1 points a game and 1.1 rebounds a night before missing last season. Still, he is a shooter who will fit right into the Hokies system.

He was the Gatorade Player of the Year in Illinois in 2022 and was the 66th-ranked player by On3 Sports. This is another big pick up for Young and his staff as Schutt picked Virginia Tech over Wisconsin, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Creighton, and other schools. Last season the Hokies got production from the outside from Junter Cattoor, who is out of eligibility, Pedulla, Nickel, and even Collins who saw his outside shot really come along in the second half of the season.
