In this edition of Virginia Tech Hokies News, the men's soccer team returned to the pitch, the women's basketball team released their non-conference schedule, the football team announces another home sellout and the baseball team gets a commitment.

Men's soccer beat UNC Asheville

The men's soccer team improved to 2-0 in the young season with a 2-0 shutout over UNC Asheville in a non-conference match at Thompson Field. Ethan Hackenberg opened the scoring for the Hokies in the first half with a penalty shot goal, then early in the second half, Malick Thiaw doubled the lead with a nice chip shot on a breakaway.

Virginia Tech returns to action Labor Day night on the road at Kentucky.

Women's basketball releases non-conference schedule

The women's basketball team released their non-conference schedule Tuesday. There were some leaks leading into the full announcement, but the entire schedule was released. They will open the season at home on Nov. 4 against UNC Wilmington before heading to Charlotte for the Ally Tipoff on Nov. 10 against Iowa at 5:30 p.m. on ESPN2.

The remaining home games in the non-conference are against UNC Asheville (Nov. 13), Coppin State (Nov. 16), Rutgers (Nov. 19), Elon (Nov. 23), Radford (Dec. 15), and Campbell (Dec. 21). Road games are at the Fort Myers Tip-Off against Davidson then either Michigan or Belmont and at Georgia on Dec. 4 as part of the ACC/SEC Challenge.

Football sells out Georgia Tech game

Virginia Tech announced that they have sold out their home game against Georgia Tech on Oct. 26. It will be Homecoming and after the Yellow Jackets beat Florida State on Saturday, the Hokies are going to need it to be loud inside Lane Stadium that day.

Baseball gets a commitment

Brady Elrod, an outfielder and pitcher in the Class of 2026, announced his commitment to Virginia Tech baseball coach John Szefc.
