Virginia’s Tech depth going to be tested early

In building a program that is going to compete for conference championships and a berth in the College Football Playoff, coaches need to build depth within their program. Pry has been doing that in case of injuries that are almost certain to pop up. We saw it last fall when quarterback Grant Wells went down in Week 2 against Purdue and that opened the door for Baylor transfer Kyron Drones to take over and the rest, as they say, is history.

Wednesday, Pry met with the media and gave some updates, including one that could hurt the Hokies in a key area of a game. Tucker Holloway, who is one of the top punt returners in not only the ACC but also the country, has his 2024 season in doubt after suffering an injury in spring practices. He did not play in the Spring Game on April 13, but losing him on punt returns would be a big loss. Of course, there is still a long time before the season starts, but if Holloway is needed going to be out, Jaylin Lane has experience returning punts from his time at Middle Tennessee State before coming to Virginia Tech.
