Virginia Tech football report card from bounce-back win over Marshall

It wasn't always pretty, but a win is a win for the Hokies over the Thundering Hurd.

Virginia Tech defense report card in win over Marshall

A. . . Defensive Line. ACC

It was a good afternoon for the Hokies defensive line. Aside from one big third quarter run by Marshall, they kept the Thundering Hurd in check and a lot of pressure on QB Stone Earle. Keyshawn Burgos, Kelvin Gilliam, Josh Fuga, and Antwaun Powell-Ryland all made an impact.

ACC. A. . . Linebackers

It was another good day for the linebackers for the Hokies against Marshall. Keli Lawson, Keonta Jenkins, and Sam Brumfield each had five tackles and were in on several pressures. Again, the only reason the Hokies took a 10-7 lead into halftime was because of how well the defense played. Again, Marve had his unit ready to go from the first possession of the game.

ACC. A. . . Secondary

No Jalen Stroman this week and he is likely for more going forward, how well was the Hokies' secondary going to play in his absence? The answer, is very good. Once again Mose Phillips was very good with five tackles and a sack, Mansoor Delane had a better game than last week at Vanderbilt and Donate Lovett had a good fourth quarter helping Tech get a couple of turnovers on downs.
