Saturday afternoon, the Virginia Tech football team will head out West for their first ACC game against one of the conference's new members this season. The Hokies will head to California to play Stanford and both teams will be coming off of losses this weekend in different ways.

By now, you know what happened Friday night at Miami when Virginia Tech had what appeared to be a game-winning touchdown overturned by replay review which did not look like indisputable evidence. The 38-34 loss is a tough one to stomach for Brent Pry's team. The Cardinal lost at Clemson on Saturday night and will be looking to turn things around in their conference home opener.

It has been a mixed bag of results this season for the Hokies, whether they are at home or on the road. Sunday, DraftKings released their opening odds for next weekend's games and Virginia Tech opened as a surprisingly rather big favorite over the Cardinal.

Virginia Tech opens as nearly a touchdown favorite over Stanford

Sunday, Virginia Tech opened as a 5-point favorite over Stanford, according to DraftKings. It's not surprising that the Hokies opened as a favorite, but by how much? It would have been surprising to see the line open at two or three points, but nearly a touchdown is somewhat surprising.

Nothing is a given in college football as we have learned through the first five weeks of the season, especially when it comes to the Hokies. Virginia Tech played what you could call their most complete game of the season Friday night against the Hurricanes, but still came up four points short. There are several reasons why you could point to it, but the bottom line, they lost and fell to 2-3.

If, and that's a big if with the Hokies so far this season, Virginia Tech comes out and plays like they did at Miami, there is no reason they can't go win the game. They could also come out like they have too many times this season and lay an early egg, get behind, and lose. Anything is possible.
