Three days after beating Marshall, 31-14, at Lane Stadium Saturday, Virginia Tech football coach Brent Pry and wide receiver Da’Quan Felton met with the media Tuesday ahead of this weekend’s matchup at Old Dominion. There were many topics discussed and updates given. Here are some of them in the latest Virginia Tech Football News.

Virginia Tech getting healthy along the OL

Through two games, the offensive line play has been suspect. They have not been good in either opening half against Vanderbilt and Marshall, but the second half has been much better. There could be help on the way. Brody Meadows is expected to practice this week after missing last weekend’s game.

“I anticipate him (Meadows) to be full-go, 100 percent with us this week,” Pry said.

Against the Hurd, Bob Schick and Layth Ghannam rotated at left guard, but if Meadows is able to play, that should help the line some against the Monarchs.

Da’Quan Felton holds nothing against Old Dominion

Wide receiver Da’Quan Felton was recruited pretty well out of high school and before coming to Virginia Tech ahead of the 2023 season, he spent some time at Middle Tennessee State. He did not hear from Old Dominion during his high school recruitment and he doesn’t hold a grudge.

“I don’t take it personal,’’ said Felton. “It’s their loss.’’

Felton caught a fourth quarter touchdown pass from quarterback Kyron Drones in the win over Marshall and he has become a key piece of the Hokies offense since he arrived in Blacksburg.

Virginia Tech has a hungry wide receiver room

Felton was asked whether it’s tough to be patient in the offense with all the talented wide receivers the Hokies have. It has been a struggle at times to get them the ball through the first two games, but that hasn’t cause any patients to grow thin.

“If one eat, we all eat’’ he said.

Hopefully they will be eating a lot more as the season goes along and they will need multiple plays to eat against Old Dominion this weekend.

SMU making quarterback change

Coming into the ACC for their first season, SMU was expected to be in the thick of the conference race. They very well still may be, but after struggling offensively against Nevada, and BYU, which saw them lose the latter game, they are making a QB change.

Head coach Rhett Lashlee announced that starter Preston Stone is going to be replaced by Kevin Jennings. The 2-1 Mustangs are off this week and will host TCU on Sept. 21, which will be Jennings' first start of 2024.
