Virginia Tech Football: Hokies' 5 biggest wins of the 2023 season
By Scott Roche
Sept. 30: Virginia Tech 38, Pittsburgh 21
After a frustrating month of September with their non-conference schedule, the Hokies were looking to hit the reset button as conference play began, and boy did they. Virginia Tech built a 21-7 halftime lead and made it 28-7 early in the third quarter a fumble deep in Panthers territory gave the Hokies ball in the red zone and Drones scored on a 10-yard run. Drones finished the game with three touchdown passes and two touchdown runs.
Virginia Tech’s defense sacked former Boston College quarterback Phil Jerkovec four times and following this game, he was replaced by coach Pat Narduzzi and even was rumored to be taking snaps at tight end in practice. Bhayshul Tuten rushed for 109 yards in the game and it began his coming-out party after the Hokies committed to the run. This was close to a must-win game in September as you’re going to get in terms of having any chance of becoming bowl-eligible.
