Virginia Tech Football: 4 layup wins & 3 potential losses on the Hokies 2024 schedule
By Scott Roche
Layup Win: vs. Boston College, Oct. 17
Last November, the Hokies were 4-5 and winless on the road when they traveled to Chestnut Hill, Mass. to play the Eagles who were already bowl-eligible. In what was their first of two complete road performances to close out the regular season and become bowl-eligible, Virginia Tech hung 48 points on BC and rolled to a 26-point rout.
Quarterback Thomas Castellanos returns for the Eagles and some other key skill position players, but Bill O'Brien is in his first year in charge of Boston College and Pry should have his team ready for this one coming off road games at Miami and Stanford followed by a bye the week before. Thursday night in Blacksburg is tough for any opponent.
Layup Win: vs. Virginia, Nov. 30
Two weeks after going on the road and blowing out Boston College, the Hokies needed a victory Thanksgiving Weekend in Charlottesville to become bowl-eligible. It didn't take long for Virginia Tech to take command of the game and roll to a 55-17 blowout of the Cavaliers to pick up bowl eligibility.
Everything that could go right, went right that day for the Hokies and in all honesty, I can't see with what Virginia Tech has returning that they'll lose at home to their in-state rivals. This could be another game where Pry and his team should be able to put up as many points as possible. Who knows what could also be on the line for Tech in this game, depending on how the rest of the ACC schedule play out.
