Virginia Tech Football: 2024 signees who will make the biggest impact as freshman
By Scott Roche
Tyler Mason
Recently, Bhayshul Tuten announced he was coming back in 2024 and that is huge for quarterback Kyron Drones and the running game. Offensive coordinator Tyler Bowen mixed in Malachi Thomas this season with Tuten, but next season, Mason has an opportunity to play and make an impact.
The Mount Airy, North Carolina native is a shifty 6-foot-0, 196-pound back that is tough to bring down and breaks a lot of tackles. At Mount Airy High School, Mason put up insane numbers during his career and you can see why the Hokies made a push for him in the Class of 2024.
He rushed for over 6,000 yards in high school and 120 touchdowns while averaging 13.1 yards a carry. He is an explosive back who hits the holes quickly and is sneaky good in the passing game, which Bowen liked to do with Tuten this season.
With Tuten back, this doesn’t make it vital that Mason plays and makes an impact, however, it will be hard for the coaching staff to keep him off the field. He can make big plays out of the backfield with his speed and ability to be a change-of-pace back.
