In 2023 Corey Moore became the fifth Virginia Tech player to be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame and the first of the Frank Beamer era. A two-time All-American and two-time Big East Defensive Player of the Year, Moore claimed both the Lombardi Award and Bronko Nagurski Trophy in the same season.

Moore led the lunch pail defense in his three seasons on the field, but in 1999 he led Virginia Tech to the national championship game and an 11-1 record. He was a force on defense and no player was more emblematic of the physical, hard-hitting style that Foster wanted.
