Virginia Tech fans unleash their frustration with another dismal first-half offensively
By Scott Roche
Last week at Vanderbilt, the Virginia Tech football team's offense struggled only scoring three points. It was questionable play-calling the entire half with short passes and to compound matters, the offensive line struggled to open holes for the running game.
Fast forward seven days later against Marshall and Hokies' fans were feeling like they were having another nightmare. In basically a carbon copy of a week earlier in Nashville, Virginia Tech's offense struggled and you could make the case it was even worse against the Thundering Hurd. It didn't take long for fans to unleash their frustration for a second week in a row on X.
Virginia Tech unleash their frustration on X in the first half against Marshall
How bad was it against Marshall? Virginia Tech didn't pick up their first conversion on third down until the final drive of the half and they needed a diving catch from tight end Benji Gosnell to pick up the first down. Other than that, it was a struggle and fans noticed.
The issues for a second straight week in the first half were a combination of play calling, execution, and the offensive line getting pushed around again.
How bad has the offense and decision-making been, fans are even comparing it to Justin Fuente's tenure in Blacksburg. All we heard this offseason was the Hokies were back after the strong finish to 2023, but we have yet to see any resemblance of the offense from the final two months of last season.
Virginia Tech took a 10-7 lead into halftime with the only touchdown coming from a Jaylin Lane punt return for a touchdown on the final play of the first quarter. Other than that, it's been another disaster on multiple levels for a second week in a row for the Hokies.
