Virginia Tech 4-star recruit remains committed to Hokies despite Virginia visit
By Scott Roche
Earlier this month, Virginia Tech football commit Matthew Outten flipped his commitment to Penn State after committing to the Hokies earlier in the summer. This was a move out of left field and came two days after Virginia Tech was upset on Labor Day Weekend at Vanderbilt in overtime. Was that performance the reason for the commitment flip? Who knows, but this past weekend, another Class of 2025 commit for Brent Pry was attending a game against the Hokies' in-state biggest rival.
Four-star athlete Micah Matthews, who also committed to Virginia Tech over the summer, was in attendance for Virginia’s non-conference game against Maryland in Charlottesville. He told Brian Dohn of 247Sports that the visit was personal.
Micah Matthews says he’s still committed to Virginia Tech
Matthews said that he’s still committed to the Hokies for both football and baseball and wil be in Blacksburg this Saturday afternoon when Rutgers comes to town. He also said that he’s been in contact with the Virginia coaching staff. Make of this what you will.
"I am 100% committed to VT and will be there next week vs. Rutgers,’’ Matthews said to 247Sports.
"I'm personal friends with a few guys on the team and on Friday evening my high school had a football game in Charlottesville," he said. "A few of them were going to come out but couldn't make it so I decided to come see them with my dad since this is probably my last opportunity to do so."
Matthews is the No. 4 athlete in the Class of 2025 and being a duel-sports athlete in college, he is a prize pickup for both Pry and Virginia Tech baseball coach John Szefc. A wide receiver at the next level next season, he added the Virginia had “a pretty fun looking offense and their wide receivers are a big part of that,"
Again, read into this what you want, but this something to certainly monitor going forward.
