We are entering the new age of college sports with realignment happening and happening fast. This season SMU, Stanford, and California join the ACC, and the PAC-12 that we all grew up with is gone with the Big Ten and Big 12 adding schools. Let's not forget that Texas and Oklahoma are joining the SEC. Got all that?

It has been widely noted that Clemson and Florida State are looking to get out of the ACC, but currently, it doesn't look like that is going to happen anytime soon. Well, at least for now as anything can change at the drop of a dime. With the current state of college sports, you get the feeling like we are going down the road of a Super Conference or Super Conferences at some point and Utah football coach Kyle Whittingham hinted at that.

Utah coach Kyle Whittingham hints at potential Super Conference

Utah football coach Kyle Whittingham, whose team is entering their first season in the Big 12, was interviewed recently and the Utes sideline boss hinted, really to no one's surprise, that he sees the College Football Playoff field expanding to 16 teams in the not-too-distant future and also the creation of a Super Conference between 40-60 teams he told John Cann

“I think there is a major realignment coming and it’ll be a big one. I think it will create even more of a divide and exclusivity for the teams that are on the right side of that line. In my opinion, it’s going to look very much like an NFL minor league,'' Whittingham said.

When pressed further about a time frame, he said 20 months to four years. In the overall big picture, this is not surprising at all. It just felt like the road was going down for the big future of college sports. What would this mean for Virginia Tech? Who knows, it would be hard to see them left out of a Super Conference that has between 40 and 60 teams, but you never know. Something to think about.
