Sam Brumfield, LB
The Hokies added depth along the defensive line and they are getting Mansoor Delane and Dorian Strong back in the secondary, but there was a need in the second level at linebacker. Virginia Tech added Middle Tennessee State transfer Sam Brumfield and if there is one thing that Hokies fans will learn quickly it is that he's a tackling machine.
Last season for the Blue Raiders Brumfield had 82 tackles, 46 solo, 3.5 sacks, and three forced fumbles. The Pearl, Mississippi native had a season-high 13 tackles, 10 solo against Murray State, then had 12 tackles and seven solo against Jacksonville State. He will step in and get a lot of snaps next season and solidify the second level for Marve and Virginia Tech.
All in all, there is a lot to like about the transfer for next season, but these three have an opportunity to make the biggest impact next season for a team that has pretty high expectations entering the new season.
